Sleep apnea and narcolepsy are the two main types of sleep disorders. A lot of people have sleep apnea, but not many people have narcolepsy. If you suffer from sleep apnea and are not being treated, you may be quite drowsy during the day, unable to drive or you may not be able to work at an inactive job. In severe cases of sleep apnea, you may not be able to work at all because you fall asleep on the job. Narcolepsy is a condition that causes episodes of falling asleep.
In severe cases of Narcolepsy, cataplexy or momentary paralysis may be a factor. The momentary paralysis is caused when the person has an emotional reaction (i.e., amusement, anger, fear, joy or surprise). Uncontrolled narcolepsy will not allow you to work at all because of the extreme limitations.
